Rescue 3's Rescue Boat Operator courses are fun, fast paced courses that teach real world skills. Students gain hands on experience from expert instructors. Choose from one of three options to meet your training needs.

Flood Rescue Boat Operator
Flood Rescue Boat Operator is a course designed to introduce rescue personnel to handling motorized boats on flat water. The course includes one day of classroom learning and two days of boat operation and throttle time. Students are exposed to a number of topics including types of motorized boats suitable for water rescue, boat launch and retrieval, boat handling on still or slowly moving water, crew roles, boat safety and accident recovery. Procedural skills like search and rescue, in-water versus marooned recovery, and recovery of conscious and unconscious persons are discussed and practiced as well. Duration: 3 day course. Prerequisites: SRT1 and basic swimming ability.

Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operator
This course is designed to introduce students to boat operation on swiftwater. During the course students gain experience reading moving water and operating boats in current. Swiftwater powered and paddle skills such as hydraulic use and avoidance, ferrying, and obstacle navigation will be practiced in class I and II whitewater. Students then practice running down and up stream in class III and above whitewater. Other exercises include night operation scenarios and multiple boat operations. Duration: 3 day course. Prerequiaites: SRT1, basic boat handling ability, basic swimming ability

NIMS Rescue Boat Operator*
The NIMS Rescue Boat Operator program combines all of the skills learned in the Flood Rescue Boat Operator and Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operator courses. Students will learn to handle boats in both flat and moving water, as well as how to perform rescues safely and effectively in both environments. This course is designed to meet the needs of agencies who wish to comply with the FEMA team typing requirements or work in conjunction with other agencies and departments during national disasters. Duration: 5 day course. Prerequisites: SRT1 and basic swimming ability. *University level classes available at specific locations. Call for details.
